Satan can’t stop you from having big dreams but he can distract you from achieving them.
The next time you’re tempted to binge watch Netflix, random YouTube videos or mindlessly scroll on social media, remember this: distractions are never harmless.
The Danger of Distractions
Distractions are keeping you from fulfilling your God-given dreams.
Why?
Because our mind is an entry point or gateway.
Every thought you allow in that gate either brings you closer or farther to the future life that God desires for you.
Why?
Because the ideas you allow in your mind shape your vision. Your vision determines what you believe. What you believe determines what you do.
In Alignment?
If your vision is out of alignment, then your beliefs & actions will be too. You won’t hit your goals this way.
If you vision is in alignment, then your beliefs & actions will be too. Then your dreams will come to life.
You must guard your mind above all else so that you don’t lose sight of your goals by entertaining the wrong thoughts (Proverbs 4:23).
“Above all, be careful what you think because your thoughts control your life.” Proverbs 4:23 ERV
Good Things vs. The God Thing
When you’re focused on turning your dreams into your reality, you can't indulge in distractions.
Even if they make you feel comfortable.
Even if your distraction of choice is technically a “good” thing.
If it keeps you from the God dream, then you have to let it go.
Why?
Because hitting your goals requires you to manage your resources (i.e. time, mental capacity & energy) differently than you do now.
This often means cutting out distractions rather than adding more activities to your schedule.
Cutting out distraction is crucial if you want to become the better, future version of yourself that you envision.
Self-Assessment
Stop and ask yourself this: “How conscious am I about the beliefs and behaviors that I take in?”
If you realize that you take in too many of the wrong thoughts, don’t feel condemned. There is a solution. It’s simple, but it can be challenging.
The Solution To Distraction
The Bible tells us to "take captive every thought and make it obedient to Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:5).
It also says, "out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks" (Luke 6:45).
If you want to overcome distraction so you can have the life you want to live, you must to take captive every thought & make it obedient to Christ.
Taking captive every thought is an intentional process. It won’t happen without consistent practice.
The enemy will tempt you to be passive about this process to delay your goals.
Yet overcoming distraction requires an exertion of your will/heart, mind & emotions to subdue the distractingthoughts.
It may seem impossible at first. Yet with practice, it becomes easier to filter out the distractions & get closer to your goals.
Bottom line, your future life begins with the thoughts you allow in your mind right now. Choose wisely!
