How to Fight & Win against False Gods, Fallen Angels & Demons without being Weird or Unbiblical

How to Fight & Win against False Gods, Fallen Angels & Demons without being Weird or Unbiblical

Spiritual warfare is real. Whether you believe in it or not, it affects you. If you don’t face it head on, it robs you of your power to advance the kingdom of God. If you ignore it because it seems weird, it will take away your ability to help those who you are called to serve. If you turn a blind eye to it, it will steal peace from you and from the ones you love.

When you don’t know how to fight & win, it causes unnecessary chaos in every area of your life. The enemy has come to steal, kill & destroy. Jesus has promised us life to the full. (John 10:10)

If we want to receive Jesus’s promise of life to the full, we have to fight for it. We first fight for it by understanding who we are in Jesus. Understanding our identity in Jesus is what allows us to fight & win.

Revelation 1:6 states that as followers of Jesus we are kings & priests.  1 Peter 2:9 describes us as a royal priesthood.  If you want to fight & win while engaging in spiritual warfare, it must be from your royal identity. Make no mistake, if you are a disciple of Jesus, you are royalty in the eyes of God. You are more than a conqueror. God designed you to win against the enemy. This is not my opinion, this is God’s truth about who you are. In this article, I will focus on our royal identity as kings & queens in the context of spiritual warfare & why understanding who you are in Christ is essential if you want to win.

We have to fight from the identity of a king because we are fighting against evil spiritual princes & rulers. This is an ancient fight that can be traced from Genesis all the way through Revelation. To win in this fight requires the authority of a king. This is what Ephesians 6:12 is about.

Ephesians 6:12 states, "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

We are called & commissioned by scripture to wrestle against principalities.

In traditional definition, a principality is a state that is ruled by a prince. From Ephesians 6:12, we can then understand that principalities are ruled by evil spirits with a rank of a prince. Where else in the bible do we see evil spirits with the rank of a prince ruling over a territory? We see them in the book of Daniel.

In Daniel 10:13, Daniel has a vision of an angel. In the vision, the angel tells him that an evil angel referred to as the “prince of the kingdom of Persia” stopped God’s message from reaching him for 21 days.  This angel speaking to Daniel then refers to the angel Michael as one of the chief princes that helped the message from God to reach Daniel.

From this passage in Daniel, we can establish that angels are also known as princes in the Bible. There are angelic princes like Michael, who serve Yahweh. There are also angelic princes that fight against Yahweh, like the prince of Persia.

In the same way a king rules a kingdom, a prince rules a principality.

KEY POINT
KINGS RULE KINGDOMS | PRINCES RULE PRINCIPALITIES

We have to fight from the identity of a king because we are fighting against evil spiritual princes. To win in this fight requires the authority of a king. God is calling & commissioning us in scripture to wrestle against principalities. These principalities are governed by evil spirit princes like the ones in Daniel 10. When Ephesians 6 says we wrestle against principalities, Daniel 10 gives us a picture of what that looks like.

The good news is the resurrection of Jesus places Him far above very principality & power. Which means we can wrestle against them with even more authority than Daniel could! (Ephesians 1:17-22)

The apostle Paul prays that God would give us “the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him”. If we can understand that Jesus is far above all principalities & powers and that we are in Him, we would fight & win.

If you are a disciple of Jesus, you are in the Body of Christ. Since Jesus is above all principalities, every disciple is above them as well. That positioning above these evil spirit princes is because we are the Body of Christ.  Jesus is the head of the Body of Christ & He is the King of kings. (Revelation 19:16)

Jesus's position as the King of kings is not only referring to physical kings on earth. It is also referring to spiritual kings & princes as well.

2 Timothy 2 says that if we endure, we will also reign with Him. Revelation 5:10  says that we will reign on the earth. Now context is important, these scriptures are referring to the future. But it shows us something important about our identity. We are rulers. We are kings. That is part of our inheritance in Christ.

Jesus is King, and we are also kings. Jesus will rule, and we will also rule. While the fullness of ruling is in the context of the return of Jesus, we begin reigning from now. That is what advancing the kingdom of God is all about. Kings reign over kingdoms. Princes reign over principalities. Evil spirit princes are reigning in areas where Jesus should be reigning over.

As co-heirs of Christ, Jesus has given us power to reign & drive out evil spiritual powers. Ruling is part of our inheritance and our eternal destiny. Revelation 22:5 reiterates this and says that the servants of God will reign with God forever and ever.

We are sons & heirs of God through Christ (Galatians 4:7). Galatians 4:1 shows us why we are not operating in authority even though we are heirs. Galatians 4:1 says that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave. Even though this heir is the master of all!

Making it practical, this is why many believers can feel like they’re losing even though Christ has given them the ability to overcome the enemy. If you only

This is why spiritual maturity matters.

When we understand who we are in Jesus as heirs, we understand that maturity is essential. To fight & win against false gods, fallen angels & demons requires spiritual maturity. Being a son of God & an heir gives us the authority to win. But as long as we operate like children, we won’t operate in the fullness of our authority.

This teaching will help you mature & walk in the fullness of your identity as an heir. Just by understanding this alone, you are already more equipped.

Fighting & winning is not about fancy words & phrases, it is about authority. Authority comes from Intimacy. Intimacy comes from Identity. Our Identity comes from Christ. When we wrestle against principalities, rulers & powers in the heavenly places, we have the upper hand. Not only do we have the upper hand, we have the ultimate victory. When Jesus rose from the dead, every evil prince, including satan, was placed under the feet of Jesus.

KEY POINT
IDENTITY → INTIMACY → AUTHORITY

We are the Body of Christ & Jesus is the Head of His Body. When we are instructed to put on the full armor of God, it includes the feet.  Our feet are covered by the gospel of peace. It is with this gospel that we wrestle & trample principalities, rulers & powers under our feet. When our spirit receives this & our mind begins to comprehend this, our life will begin to reflect our new authority.

Practical Steps to Fight & Win:

  1. Pray the prayer that the apostle Paul wrote to us in  Ephesians 1. Specifically, that God would give you a spirit of wisdom & revelation that makes God known to you. We can be confident that God will answer this prayer because of what is written in James 1.

  2. Pray that the eyes of your heart will be enlightened. The first part of the prayer helps us to understand in our spirit. This second part of the prayer helps us to understand in our soul, which is our mind, will & emotions, including the heart.

  3. Pray that you receive the richness of God’s glorious inheritance. When we understand that by identity we are both sons of God & heirs of God, we will understand that we are worthy of receiving this glorious inheritance. This glorious inheritance includes the ability to fight & win against false gods, fallen angels & demons.

Now there is far more that I want to explain regarding these things, but I will save that for a future article. If you have any questions or comments, please leave them below.
